World Rally Championship runner-up Mikko Hirvonen was in Santiago on November 22 and 23 to support the launch of the Citroën DS5 in Chile. The Finnish driver gratefully accepted the Brand’s invitation to take part in what proved to be a fun, enjoyable event.
Mikko Hirvonen spent an intense and action-packed few days in Chile, starting with the presentation press conference and ending with a tour of the Brand’s facilities in Santiago.
“I have been really enchanted by Chile. There are beautiful mountains as far as the eye can see, all the streets and avenues in Santiago are lined with trees and flowers, as if they are there to remind you how welcoming the Chileans are. I’m very proud to be here and take part in this event. As well as the launch of the Citroën DS5, I had the privilege of becoming the sponsor of a new rally team that will be entering two DS3 R3s in the national championship in 2013. After the press conference, there were some rally experience sessions organised in a Citroën DS3 Sport Chic and the enthusiasm of my passengers ensured it was a great, shared experience.”
The second day began with the handover of ten vehicles to the country’s largest technical university, in partnership with the French National Education system. This provided Mikko with another opportunity to talk about motoring and motorsport with enthusiastic students. The afternoon was taken up by a tour of Citroën’s facilities in Chile. The 250 employees at the head office and branch office in Santiago were treated to autograph-signing sessions, photos and a giveaway of free gifts.
“Mikko really enjoyed taking part and everyone was impressed by his good humour and approachability”, enthused Fernan Gazmuri, Chairman of the Citroën Brand in Chile. “This is the biggest event that we have held here so far and Mikko’s presence gave our operation another dimension, as well as an undisputed dynamic. I hope we’ll have the pleasure of seeing him here again, sometime in the future.”
